Bobby Chacon was born November 28th, 1951 in Sylmar, California. The popular "Schoolboy" turned professional boxer in Los Angeles, CA in 1972. With an explosive and devastating punch, Chacon knocked out 23 of his first 25 opponents, including a 10th round TKO over Chucho Castillo and an electrifying 9th round TKO victory over Danny "Little Red" Lopez in Los Angeles, on his way to claiming the featherweight title. The only blemish on his record to that day was a 9th round TKO loss to Ruben Olivares in 1973. On September 7, 1974, Chacon stopped Alfredo Marcano in 9 rounds to capture the vacant WBC Featherweight Crown. Chacon defeated Olivares when he scored a 10 round win in their third match in 1977. Campaigning as a super featherweight, Chacon unsuccessfully challenged for the WBC belt against Alexis Arguello and Cornelius Boza-Edwards in 1979 and 1981 respectively. However, the third title shot was a charm for Chacon as he scored a unanimous decision over champion Rafael "Bazooka" Limon on December 12, 1982 and claimed the WBC Super Featherweight title. This fight was also named Ring Magazine’s 1982 Fight of the Year. In the following year he avenged his loss to Boza-Edwards with a unanimous 12 round win. Chacon continued to box until 1988 and scored wins over Freddie Roach and Arturo Frias before hanging up his gloves with a 59-7-1 (47 KOs) record and a reputation as one of the West Coast's most exciting fighters and one of boxing’s all time greats.
