Genaro “Chicanito” Hernandez was born May 10th, 1966 in the state of California. Hernandez set himself as one of the greatest fighters of his time and enjoyed a distinguished career as a professional boxer. He started his quest in boxing racking up many wins thus establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of boxing. After 23 fights and many opponents getting TKO’d, he showed his first sign of true greatness on November 22nd, 1991 when he defeated Daniel Londas in 9 rounds in Londas’ hometown of Epernay, France. He captured his first world title with this win. Hernandez would later vacate this title for a chance to face a young Oscar De La Hoya. Shortly after this first loss, Hernandez would capture his second world title, the prestigious WBC Super Featherweight title by winning a 12 round split decision against Azumah Nelson. He would go on to defend his WBC title four times before retiring in 1998. “Chicanito” finished his stellar career with the only blemishes to his record being losses to boxing greats Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. With his spectacular performances in the ring, Hernandez will always be remembered as one of boxing’s all time legends.
