Roger went on to capture a major world title and remain undefeated in his first 17 bouts. After 17 more fights, Mayweather went on to capture another world title, this one though the coveted WBC Light Welterweight title against Rene Arredondo. Mayweather led on the scorecards and knocked down Arredondo three times in round 6 to win by TKO. Throughout his career, Roger fought many champions of the 1980s and 1990s including WBC Champions and boxing greats Pernell “Sweat Pea” Whitaker and Julio Caser Chavez. He is part of the Mayweather boxing family. His brothers are former welterweight contender Floyd Mayweather Sr. and former IBO Super Featherweight Champion Jeff Mayweather. When nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr. turned pro in 1996, Roger Mayweather turned his attention away from his boxing career and focused more on being Floyd’s trainer. His nephew would go on to become a five-division world champion under his training and guidance. Roger’s skill as a fighter proved to be an undeniable asset later as he took his skill to training and produced one of this generations greatest fighters, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Roger Mayweather’s trailblaze through boxing has earned him a permanent place in the history books of the greatest sport known to man.
