Armando “Mando” Ramos was born on November 15th, 1948 in Long Beach, California. After forging his birth certificate, Mando turned pro at the age of seventeen. Staying in his home town, Mando entertained the crowds of Los Angeles during the start of his professional career and became this city’s pride and joy. Trained by Hall of Fame trainer Jackie McCoy, Ramos fought 10 world title fights, was a two-time champion and earned millions of dollars. While other famous athletes of his time like Mickey Mantle and Joe Namath earned 100k per season, Mando was earning 100K per night. He was the world's highest paid teenager and his purses were larger than any other fighter with the exception of Muhammad Ali. "Mando" fought and defeated fighters including Sugar Ramos, Carlos Teo Cruz, and Yoshiaki Numata. Mando would go on to fight brawler Pedro Carrasco three consecutive times to prove he was indeed champion of the world. His fearsome power in combination with the heart of a lion eventually made him the WBC Lightweight Champion of the World and a WBC Legend.
